On 7 May 2016, the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences’ Global China Studies (GCS) programme hosted a forum entitled Human Nature: Good or Evil at the City University of Hong Kong. The event, which was co-organised with the Peking University Alumni Association Hong Kong, was held to celebrate the 118th Anniversary of the founding of Peking University. Professor Gong Ting, on behalf of GCS, delivered the opening speech and introduced GCS to the audience.

What is human nature? Philosophers, theologians and scientists, ancient and modern, Western and Chinese, have presented divergent and colourful theories and doctrines on this question. At the forum, three scholars introduced and discussed this issue from the perspectives of Confucianism, Buddhism and Daoism, respectively. In addition, scholars discussed the latest findings in contemporary psychology. People from all walks of life attended the forum and eagerly participated in the discussions.
