Global China Studies (GCS) of the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences, collaborated with the editors of Public Administration and Development (PAD) to hold an international workshop entitled “The Quality of Governance in China and Beyond” on 15-17 June 2016 at City University of Hong Kong. Scholars from the US, the UK, mainland China, Taiwan and Hong Kong participated in the conference, and included Professor Xiaowei Zang, the Dean of College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences, and PAD’s Editor-in-Chief, Jose A Puppim de Oliveira. Founded in 1949, PAD is a leading peer-reviewed SSCI journal whose contributors focus on the practice of public administration at the local, regional, national and international levels.

The papers presented at the conference will be published in a special issue of PAD edited by its honorary editor, Paul Collins, and Professors Ting Gong and Hon S Chan of CityU. This special issue will follow PAD’s pioneering volume on state capacity building in China, published in 2009 (http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/pad.v29:1/issuetoc).
