Robert Daly discussed the US presidential election and US-China relations

On 4 November 2016, the Global China Studies Lecture Series of the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences invited Mr Robert DALY, Director of the Kissinger Institute on China and the United States at the Woodrow Wilson Center, to deliver a lecture entitled “The US Presidential Election and its Impact on US-China Relations”.

First, Mr Daly emphasised the need to consider the historical dynamics of US-China relations. He then addressed the positive aspects of this relationship, such as the two countries’ mutually beneficial economic interdependence, and stressed that the relationship between China and the US is sufficiently mature that it can absorb shocks in certain areas without harming cooperation in others. In addition, Mr Daly noted that the US and China are not the only two countries in the world; they interact with other countries in a complex web of relations. Multilateralism is beneficial to both the US and China.

Mr Daly’s lecture attracted a full house, with visitors and students from CityU and other institutions in attendance, and concluded with fruitful discussion during a question-and-answer session.
