COM Research Seminar: Focusing on Attributes: Sensationalism in Information and Misinformation by Prof Shuhua ZHOU

On September 11, 2023, Professor Shuhua Zhou, Chair Professor of Media and Communication at City University of Hong Kong, delivered a seminar entitled "Focusing on Attributes: Sensationalism in Information and Misinformation." Prof. Zhou, a renowned media and communication scholar, has held prestigious positions at the Missouri School of Journalism and the University of Alabama. He is an ICA Fellow and serves as an editor for esteemed journals. Prof. Zhou's primary research areas encompass television news and the cognitive aspects of mediated messages. During the seminar, Prof. Zhou delved into the impact of information attributes, specifically sensationalism, on attention, perception, and memory. He explored the role of sensationalism in traditional information platforms and its influence on the dissemination of misinformation. The seminar garnered significant interest, drawing an audience of approximately fifty faculty members, PhD students, and scholars from diverse departments.
