HKIAS Distinguished Lecture Series

Professor Tobin J. Marks of Northwestern University, US, will conduct a lecture titled “Making Mechanically Agile Electronics, Opto-Electronics, and Iontronics a Reality. Electroactive Polymers and Amorphous Oxides” on 9 January. The talk will focus on the challenging, understanding-based design, creation and realisation of new material combinations for unconventional, flexible electronic circuitry. CityU won the Bronze Award in the “Public and Community Services” category in the prestigious “2022 Hong Kong Awards for Environmental Excellence” (HKAEE) for its commitment and efforts in sustainability and its continual improvement in its environmental performance. The HKAEE is led by the Environmental Campaign Committee of the Environment and Ecology Bureau, in conjunction with nine industrial and commercial organisations. It is an annual award, whose aim is to encourage companies and organisations to adopt green management, benchmark their performance with the best practices in their sectors, and recognise the achievements of the best-performing companies and organisations.

Chair Professor Tsai Din-ping, Professor Chen Mu-ku, Liu Xiaoyuan (PhD student under the supervision of Professor Tsai) in the Department of Electrical Engineering, and Professor Takuo Tanaka, Chief Scientist of the Metamaterials Laboratory at RIKEN, won the Best Paper Award at the International Symposium on Imaging Sensing and Optical Memory (ISOM 2023). The winning paper is titled “Intelligent Meta-devices for Aerial, Land, and Underwater Imaging”. First held in 1985, ISOM now covers the fields of optical memory, imaging, sensing, and other related technologies for scientific interaction and collaboration.

Eliza Susanna Bovee, Chung Jiin, Tang Wing-ka and Yeom Chae-rok, students in the School of Creative Media (SCM), won the Best Abstract Film Award for their work Overheating in the 20th London International Animation Festival 2023. Their instructor is Professor Max Hattler of SCM.
