Chinese Arts and Culture Colour CityU

Color China, a festival that celebrates the beauty of Chinese culture, was held on CityU campus earlier this year. The programme consists of activities which met the needs of international students and staff who want to better understand Chinese traditions.

The student organisers of the festival put together booths for Chinese DIY handcrafts and puzzle games. Traditional Chinese music was also performed at the scene to create a cultural atmosphere. There was also an information kiosk for those who wanted to find out more. All these were done in order to provide more ways for visitors to learn more about Chinese arts and culture. More than 200 participants joined the art appreciation session and visited DIY booths to create their own traditional Chinese, masks, hairpins or round fans “Tuanshan”.

“China, a country with over 5000 years’ history, processes a rich and profound culture and national spirit. It is our responsibility to spread Chinese culture across the campus,” said Zhang Yuyang, a student organiser of the festival and a committee member of Chinese Students and Scholars Association of City University of Hong Kong Undergraduate (CSSAUG).

“With the advancement of modern technology and gadgets, people today are leaving the traditional arts and crafts behind. We aim to refresh people’s memory of Chinese traditions and emphasize the importance of preserving our culture through the event.” Yuyang added.
