The purpose of this visit was to gain an insight into the work of the Centre for Applied One Health Research and Policy Advice and to find out more about the academic and professional programmes in the College of Veterinary Medicine and Life Sciences.


In July 2017, CityU's CVMLS offered a 10-day Summer School programme to bring an inspirational experience to 28 secondary school students who aspire to becoming veterinarians in Hong Kong. Last year CityU sent 14 students to Cornell University to experience their 3-week programme. This year we decided to run the programme locally modelled on the Cornell experience.

On 2 August 2017, City University’s College of Veterinary Medicine and Life Sciences signed an important Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with PARKnSHOP, one of Hong Kong’s largest supermarket chains. The College has accorded food safety as one of its four major priorities (the others being infectious diseases, aquaculture and animal welfare) both for the College as well as its Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine programme, which begins this September and is Hong Kong’s first ever veterinary degree programme.


Professor Lorin Warnick, Dean of College of Veterinary of Medicine, Cornell University paid a two-day visit to CVMLS on 29 and 30 June 2017 as part of the strategic and continuous collaboration between CVMLS of CityU and CVM of Cornell University.


CityU Centre for Animal Welfare (CAW) is proud to be a partner of the Federation of Asian Veterinary Associations (FAVA) in delivery of the Post Graduate Continuing Education in Advanced Animal Welfare online Course 2017. This course is highly recommended for individuals who are working in veterinary medicine and veterinary education.


Demand is huge for Hong Kong students wishing to study veterinary medicine. This was clear from the recently launched Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine Programme (BVM).


Over 30 veterinarians from 14 South-east Asian countries participated in the five-day course on International Transboundary Animal Disease(ITAD) jointly hosted by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and CityU’s College of Veterinary Medicine and Life Sciences from 26 – 30 September 2016.


A six-year bachelor of veterinary medicine programme (BVM) at City University of Hong Kong (CityU) represents a milestone in the development of veterinary education in Hong Kong and the region.
