Standard Operating Procedure - Biological Process

The Biological Safety SOP at the City University of Hong Kong is a comprehensive framework designed to ensure the safe handling, storage, and disposal of biological materials in research and laboratory settings. This SOP aims to safeguard personnel, the community, and the environment from exposure to potentially hazardous biological agents, including but not limited to bacteria, viruses, fungi, and biologically derived toxins.

Adherence to these guidelines is critical for ensuring biosafety and biosecurity. The SOP includes provisions for the proper use of biosafety cabinets, sterilization practices, personal protective equipment, and incident response protocols.

For specialized biosafety concerns or additional guidance, laboratory personnel are encouraged to consult with the Laboratory Safety Unit (LSU), which provides targeted support and expertise in the management of biological hazards.
