Let the Imagination Fly, CityU Arts Festival 2019

Contributor: Miss Kathy Ng (Student Life and Resources, SDS)

‘Think what you think. Do what you want.’ is the notion behind ‘Citilian Rhapsody’, the theme for the CityU Arts Festival 2019.

The CityU Arts Festival 2019 was held from October to November 2019, consisted of 4 concerts and a Broadway musical show ‘Chicago’, which were all perfromed by CityU young artists in collaboration with local and international renowned artists. It was honoured to have the keen participation from all the musicians as well as representatives of the Tainan National University of the Arts to perform in the Festival. Ranging from orchestral music, Chinese music, vocal to choir performance, the Festival attracted nearly 2,500 audience to have themselves immersed into the harmonious euphony.

Serving as the artistic hub between CityU and the Hong Kong community, the Festival strives to enrich the cultural atmosphere on campus, and most importantly offers a stage to showcase our students’ talent. We hope that the audiences are touched by the extraordinary performances of the CityU students, which inspired thoughts and allowed imagination to fly.

CityU students punch above their weight in performing the Musical CHICAGO

CityU Musical challenged for a new height and the best!

With experience accumulated over the years, CityU Musical has become a well-received programme with appreciation from both inside and outside the University community. Instead of stories of youngsters in school setting as in the past, 'Chicago', one of the longest-running Broadway musicals, was staged at CityU this year. 'Chicago' tells the story of how a group of female criminals outwit others, and unveils the human wrestling on conspiracy and love, greed and competition. It was definitely a challenging task for the 31 student performers to devote themselves in the intensive training on singing, dancing and acting for around 6 months. Their sweats and tears had not come in vain. They received big rounds of applause, and most importantly, gained a once-in-a-lifetime performance experience!
