Road to the Shanxi Cultural Heritage

Contributor: Ms. Winnie Lee (Chinese Civilisation Centre)

Travel ten thousand miles” and ”Read ten thousand books” should be adopted simultaneously in learning, especially for acquiring traditional cultural knowledge. To provide students with the opportunities to expose themselves to traditional Chinese culture, Chinese Civilisation Centre (CCIV) organises study tours to mainland China for students annually.

In partnership with Shanxi Agricultural University (SAU), CCIV had conducted an 8-day Shanxi study tour in 2019. This trip had engaged students in the study of cultural heritage through visiting and closely examining the Wooden Pagoda and other historical sites in Shanxi. Participants were required to complete a group project based on discoveries and investigations from their site visits. The project aimed at cultivating their team work spirit, and enhancing interactions and exchanging of ideas among students from different colleges and majors. Students shared their perspectives on heritage preservation and applied diverse yet personal skills and knowledge on the study of traditional Chinese wooden architectural structures.
